A mild reducing agent especially suitable for reductive aminations due to its large scope, mildness, and selectivity.1,2 The reductive aminations of secondary amines and complex substrates also proceed smoothly using sodium triacetoxyborohydride.3,4 Commonly presented as a general reducing agent for the reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones includes aliphatic, acyclic and cyclic ketones, aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes.1,3,5 Also employed in a novel tandem reductive amination−transamidation−cyclization reaction,6 synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted-3-alkylidenylpyrrolidines in a one-pot, three-component reaction,7 and stereoselectively reduction of 4-ketoprolines to the corresponding trans-hydroxy-proline in excellent yields.8
