A particularly strong electrophile and versatile triflating reagent in fine chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis.1 Widely used for the synthesis of alkyl and vinyl triflates which are particularly useful in palladium-catalyzed coupling with organotin compounds.2 Applied in the generation of glycosyl triflates from thioglycosides by combination with benzenesulfinyl piperidine or S-(4-methoxyphenyl) benzenethiosulfinate,3,4 stereoselective direct glycosylation with anomeric hydroxy sugars,5 the large scale production of 1-benzenesulfinyl piperidine and other sulfinamides,6 and the direct a-bromination of various ketones.7 Reacts with magnesium alkoxides,8 1,2,3-triazoles,9 and alkoxybenzenes.10
