A powerful electrophilic reagent for the introduction of the tert-butyl-dimethylsilyl group.1 It can promote a rapid and efficient chalcogenide-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction with a thiolane2 and conjugate propargylation of tributylallenylstannane3. Used to provide a regioselective and reversible protecting group for adenine.4 Also employed in silylation of 1,1-dialkoxy-2-propanones5 and rare silylative hydroxyalkylation of amide compounds with chiral aldehydes6.
