A mild triflating reagent, useful for the triflation of phenols and amines (especially aliphatic secondary amines; aromatic secondary amines do not react),1,2,3 for the preparation of triflones,4 and for the preparation of enol triflates from carbonyl compounds.5 Recently applied as testing reagent in new amination of alcohols using α-hydroxy esters as substrates 6 and for preparation of 4-deoxy-ε-rhodomycinone from rhodomycinone via triflation.7
